Major Hazards

RAS can assist companies to analyse risk reduction measures in order to demonstrate that the site has reduced risks to As Low As reasonably Practical (ALARP).

Recommendations for risk reduction measures can originate from different sources including:

• The site COMAH report.
• Process HAZOPs/HAZIDs.
• Specialist risk and emergency response stuides.
• Input from operations and maintenance.

The measures are evaluated and separated into 3 catergories.

• Relatively simple, inexpensive and with obvious benefit.
• Expensive, complex and with limited benefit.
• Significant cost and possible benefit.

Category 1 measures would be implemented as soon as possible.
Category 2 measures would be rejected.
Category 3 measures would be further evaluated using detailed Cost Benefit Analysis.
