Major Hazards

Consequence Modelling

RAS use a range of modelling software packages including PHAST and ADMS for modelling the effects of gas and liqiud releases.

The calculations are then used to assess the consequences to people, assets and the environment.

Consequence modelling is used to assess factors related to both the magnitude and impact of hazards such as:

Magnitude Assessment:

  • Release rates.
  • Evaporation rates from liquid pools.
  • Gas dispersion distances, for both toxic and flammable releases.
  • Liqiud rainout from vapour clouds.

Impact Assessment:

  • Distance to defined toxicity criteria (such as IDLH, SLOD, SLOT).
  • Vapour Cloud Explosion (VCE) overpressures.
  • Distance to flammable cloud Lower Flammable Limit (LFL).
  • Thermal Impact on people and assets.
  • Thermal and Toxic impact from warehouse fires.
