Quantified Risk Assessment

RAS is experienced in undertaking Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) for a diverse range of projects. Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) is used by companies in several ways including analysing and ranking scenarios identified in process hazard analysis; providing quantitative data for use in decision making on risk; and comparing alternative process options.

Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) involves various stages to calculate the probability or likelihood of an event from occuring as well as its potential consequences.

These stages include:

  • Detailed frequency analysis of loss of containment or hazardous events using parts counts and or specific frequency analysis using fault trees or event trees.
  • Consequence analysis (magnitude and duration) using appropriate software for flammable and toxic releases.
  • Analysis of damage to people, environment and property using industry criteria.
  • Escalation analysis to assess effects of failure of major containment, vessels and pipelines under fire and blast impingement.

RAS can carry out QRA’s to estimate individual and societal risk, risk to the environment and assets/property, including, but not limited to, occupational safety, process safety, security, business, asset and environmental type safety.

Risk Assessments carried out by RAS have helped to develop customised prevention, mitigation or protection strategies, which have been successfully applied to a diverse range of projects, to significantly reduce the likelihood or consequence of a risk. It is therefore particularly important for any organisation, once risks have been recognised and quantified, to suitably manage their risks.
