RAS have a number of openings for new graduates and more senior roles depending on qualifications and experience.

Working within a small team means that the successful candidate will work on a range of projects and be given every opportunity for advancement within a growing company.

The successful applicants will be involved in all activities relating to the operation of sites coming under COMAH, Environmental Permitting and DSEAR regulations, including risk assessment for regulatory compliance, safety health & environmental management systems and procedures.

This will involve:
• The identification of potential chemical hazards;
• The evaluation of the potential impact resulting from a release of dangerous chemicals, including calculations and the use of predictive models
• The interpretation of relevant legislation
• The analysis of data and the presentation of results including technical report writing and the generation of relevant diagrams.

The applicant will:
• Have a good degree in Chemistry, Biology or Chemical Engineering; and
• Have an interest in industrial processing, safety and the environmental impact of chemicals.

Skills and Qualities
Above all, applicants must have a positive “Can Do” attitude and be adaptable and flexible in responding to rapidly changing work demands, well organised and willing to learn new skills.

They will also be an effective and concise communicator, with excellent report writing skills and the ability to summarise complex scientific information clearly and succinctly.

Other essential skills include word processing and the use of spreadsheets. A full, clean driving licence is preferred.
